I am so excited to be linking up with Inspired Owl’s Corner, Pawsitively Teaching, and Just Reed for the February Pick 3! Pinterest is my go-to for teaching, cooking, crafting, decorating, and everything else, so I just love this linky. This month I was thinking about my lesson plans and also fun (and educational) things to do with my three-year-old for Valentine’s Day. Here is what I found:

I just love this idea for a Valentine’s Day Math Station. The ideas on the blog post are so diverse that it could really be modified to fit any unit of study or any elementary grade level. She shows how to do basic counting (one-to-one correspondence), matching for basic facts and answers, geometry (3-D shapes), and measurement. My favorite idea was the heart matching, because it could be used with all kinds of other subjects such as fractions, decimals, vocabulary, etc. I can’t wait to incorporate some of these ideas into my math workshop, and also with my three-year-old daughter at home!

This is a great, simple Valentine’s Day activity and craft. The concept is simple but effective. You have the students roll the die (or two or three). They add the numbers on the dice together and cover the answer with a heart sticker. Once all the numbers are covered, the heart can be cut out and given as a card. The original post has the hearts in the picture available for free. You could also make your own and change it to a multiplication game as well. This is an awesome addition to the February math games!

This pin diverges slightly from the math theme, but it just looked like so much fun that I have to try it. You fill the bottom of a pan with baking soda, and laying Valentine’s Day cookie cutters in it. Your child (or students) use an eyedropper to drop a vinegar, soap, and food coloring mixture. The result is erupting hearts! I can’t wait to try this!
